Why Fall in the Lakes Region Feels Like Home
Where fairs, foliage, and family time come together
There’s something magical about the way fall settles into the Lakes Region. The pace slows just enough to savor the small things, and everywhere you look, the season paints the landscape in golds, reds, and brilliant oranges. It’s a time that feels equal parts lively and comforting. A season that invites both adventure and cozy reflection.
One of the best parts of autumn here in the Lakes Region is the return of local fairs. From the laughter echoing through the fairgrounds to the smell of fried dough in the air, fairs bring families together for timeless fun. Children tug at their parents' hands to see the animals, while friends gather to cheer on tractor pulls and catch up over steaming mugs of cider. We hope to see you at some of our favorite fairs!
Apple picking is another tradition that never gets old. Orchards across the region open their fields to families who come armed with baskets and a sweet tooth. There’s nothing quite like biting into a crisp apple straight from the tree, knowing a pie or a warm batch of cider donuts will soon follow. Add in a hayride through the orchards, and the experience feels like stepping back into a simpler time.
The weather itself makes fall irresistible. Days remain warm enough for hiking, nature walks, or exploring local farms but evenings bring that crisp, cool air perfect for sleeping with the windows open. The rhythm of nature seems to match the rhythm of life. Kids are back in school, routines are settling in, and yet there’s a festive spark in the air.
Inside, the season calls for baking. Kitchens fill with the smell of cinnamon, pumpkin, and fresh pies cooling on the counter. It’s these little comforts- warm sweaters, cozy nights by the fire, and shared meals that make fall in the Lakes Region feel so nostalgic.
Autumn here isn’t just a season, it’s a feeling. It’s fairs and orchards, crisp air and golden sunsets, the hum of a school bus in the morning, and the smell of pies in the oven. It’s the perfect mix of joy and comfort, and every year, it reminds us why this place feels like home.
